Alexis Stanton Chronicles
review 1: Book 4 finds us a month out from White being shot while attempting a rescue of Alex’s mother from a madman. There’s not much movement in the relationship between White and Alex, which wouldn’t be so impossible to handle if her work assignments weren’t stalled as well. Having the impatience of a two-year old gets her a new gig working directly with White. It’s a heady thing that may bear fruit, if she’s lucky. It’s unfortunate that the assignment concludes with new barriers between the lovers that never get resolved or explained over the remainder of the book. Instead we find ourselves thrust into Alex’s next assignment; which serves to illustrate just how good she is. This may not be such a good thing, as it proves a pivotal moment for all the partners. Its ... moreimpact is profound, and its consequences abrupt and startling.I adore this series. I love the female protagonist and the various characters comprising her life. I love the small adventures within the overall arc and the growth we’ve seen in Alex during her time with White and Associates. Now let me step away from my fan-girl self for a moment. That is to say that I am a fan-girl of the series—but I’m stepping away from it for purposes of this review only.Alex is somewhat spoiled--yet a hard worker. She is given to violence or combativeness more often than her male counterparts. Her overreactions come across as a fractious feminist at worst—all of which is realistic given her background. I was not crazy about the ending in Book 3; the way Alex embraces her legacy is a little cheesy, in my opinion. It was such a small thing at the time that I really didn’t see it as a major turnoff to my overall enjoyment.Moving forward to Book 4 and the cheese factor starts to wreak havoc on my enjoyment. Those discordant notes carry over into several moments in the story. I admit it. I sneered after each one thinking “what a drama queen”. Those moments read like a teenager making dramatic pronouncements before flouncing out of a room full of grown men. Who does that? Or rather, what adult does that? I was embarrassed for the character and womankind as a whole.Back to fan-girl mode: I’m still looking forward to reading about the new turn the series is taking. Alex is still a blooming young killer and operative who just needs more time to fully blossom.
review 2: Even better writing just as much fun as ever! Loved this one except Alex's doubts about White. It is reasonable under the circumstances but I want her to accept that he really cares about her. The survival training was awesome! I love when they go to Wyoming! Red is being a pain agian...what it that all about? If you are not already a fan, start with the first book but if you are, you will love, love, love this one! I still adore Black! We get to see a bit of Penumbra! less
