review 2: If I could give this book a thousand stars, I would. Its main audience is fans of Oranges are Not the Only Fruit. But this memoir is half the true stories behind the semi-a... moreutobiographical novel Oranges and half the spiritual journey of a lesbian woman raised in a religiously abusive home. So it is not just for those who have already read works by Winterson, it is also a must-read for everyone raised in the church, for every queer person, and all of those who have ever struggled to reconstruct memory in the context of trauma. After my third read, I can’t recommend this book highly enough. It has become like Scripture to me. less
