review 1: Having read most of Jeanette Winterson's other novels, this was very different than the writing I had become accustomed to. There was less importance on the author's part for her poetic writing and more concentration on the very disturbing story. Yet, even with telling a story about characters based on fact, the author made this her own and infused her typical theme of love into the tale. Although not steeped in fact at all, after completing the book, I felt one of Winterson's messages was "There are more sides to the story." Although I doubt the accused witches actually practiced magic, this work illustrates that the vague history we know doesn't tell the full true story of those victimized by the witch hunts. And...to a certain extent we can no longer obtain the truths s... moreince the victims left no or very little personal history. Winterson's fictional, but strong, character development shows us the human side of even the most downright, twisted people.
review 2: Este tipo de libros no está hecho para mí... ¡¡Ha sido una lectura horrible!! No me ha gustado nada, me perdía entre sus personajes. No tenía una trama definida y el soporifero estilo de la autora me aburria muchísimo. Eso si, reconozco que el personaje de Alice, aunque no haya acabado de comprenderlo, me ha cautivado. Por desgracia, era lo único bueno del libro y el único motivo por el que merecía la pena llegar al final (desde mi humilde y testarudo punto de vista). Desde luego no lo recomiendo y eso que a mi la caza de brujas es un tema que me fascina... less
