review 1: I honestly didn't like this much, though I think that's entirely personal taste on my part. It seems to be written well. There aren't any glaring faults or anything. I mainly didn't feel like this needed to be a verse novel. It didn't feel like it did anything special with the format, and it would have worked fine as prose. Of course, this might be due to my general preference for prose. I also didn't find the subject matter especially appealing. The first part was somewhat interesting to me, the other two less so. I would recommend this to people who'd be more interested than I, but personally I just didn't like it very much.
review 2: This is a tremendous novel in verse about three prominent women in history who achieved beyond expectations while influencing
... moretheir daughters and ours through osmosis and happen to share the same birth year, 1867. Beginning with Laura Ingalls Wilder, the reader learns how she became a well respected children's author with her daughters assistance. Atkins builds upon the women's accomplishments with Madam C. J. Walker's becoming the first African American millionaire by supplying a personal need that traveled around the world in hair care products simultaneously being an amazing humanitarian. Lastly but not least, Marie Curie's life is explored through verse highlighting her claim to fame by discovering radium and polonium with her husband Pierre. She becomes the first person to win two Nobel Prizes and her daughter, Irene, sets the goal to earn one as well. I found the selected details shared to be powerful and poignant. Any young lady who reads these three biographies should be encouraged to make things happen for themselves and their daughters. less
