Rump is a fascinating chapter book for middle grade readers that puts a fun and original twist on the classic Rumpelstiltskin tale. Twelve-year-old Rump lives with his grandmother in a kingdom where his name is his destiny. He is the laughingstock of the village because of his name. Suddenly he discovers a spinning wheel and his unique gift of spinning straw into gold which changes his destiny. Despite his friend Red Riding Hood’s caution about the dangers of magic, Rump hopes to spin enough gold to end their poverty. But as he continues to spin thread, he finds himself caught in a troublesome curse. He must go on a quest to realize his true name, discover his destiny, and understand his special talent while fighting off fantastical dark forces and discovering his courage along the way.
