review 1: This is the second of this series. And again my review is the same as before. I really don't like the main character. Frankly at several points in the book I would like to slap his face as his behavior is strange, unpredictable and without any real motive IMHO. The secondary character Jimmy Littlemore is far more interesting and well developed. I would prefer the author kill off Younger and have the series just about Littlemore. The background and history work of the time is excellent and I learn things in each book. The plots are fairly humdrum and predictable. I doubt I will bother reading anymore of this series. If you love Freud and analysis these are the books for you otherwise try someone else.
review 2: This book was at somewhat of a disadvantage after m
... morey 26-year-old son raved about the plot - and specifically the deplorable conditions for a group of female factory workers (I won't say more to avoid a spoiler). So my expectations were high, and then that section was a very small part of the plot. Other sections of the plot seemed tedious at times, and again, that might be because of initial expectations. I liked the theoretical descriptions of a "death instinct" and would like to see that explored further in fiction set during our current time period. less

Not the most exciting of books but I was drawn to it, especially during the last third of the book.
