review 1: I started this book thinking one thing...Will it be as good as Warm Bodies? The answer is simply, no. Jake is our lazy stoner lead protagonist and although he's quite funny, he just never really develops as a character. Cass, our 2nd POV and female zombie hunter, interested me a little bit more though again her voice was quite "childish." Then there's Amanda...a character with no POV but who we're supposed to care about. The truth is she's a mean girl with zero redeeming qualities. Except she's hot, so Jake loves her. The story progresses nicely through episodic challenges and ends on a fair enough cliffhanger.
review 2: Well, turns out it takes a clever title & cover spoofing Eat Pray Love and a funny first few pages to get me to pick up a Zombie book.
... moreI was always repelled by the idea of zombies, but I actually enjoyed this book. Though I know next to nothing about zombie mythology, I thought this one had an interesting take. The book is a great combination of humor, action, suspense, with a touch of romance. But I warn you-—though it looks like a stand alone, it is not. A lot of fun. less
