With a 4.14 star-rating (10,472 reviewers/ as of Sept 2017) on Goodreads, Forever With You by J. Lynn hits you right in the feels with an extremely heartbreaking and relatable story line, a sweet love story, and a companion to many women who have experienced similar things.

Book Description:

In the irresistibly sexy series from #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout, two free spirits find their lives changed by a one-night stand…

Some things you just believe in, even if you’ve never experienced them. For Stephanie, that list includes love. It’s out there. Somewhere. Eventually. Meanwhile she’s got her job at the mixed martial arts training center and hot flings with gorgeous, temporary guys like Nick. Then a secret brings them closer, opening Steph’s eyes to a future she never knew she wanted—until tragedy rips it away.

Nick’s self-assured surface shields a past no one needs to know about. His mind-blowing connection with Steph changes all that. As fast as he’s knocking down the walls that have kept him commitment-free, she’s building them up again, determined to keep the hurt—and Nick—out. But he can’t walk away. Not when she’s the only one who’s ever made him wish for forever.

MY THOUGHTS:

The fifth book in the Wait For You series by J. Lynn (more about her, here) is so emotionally charged, that I found myself bawling my eyes out throughout the last third of the book. Having experienced exactly what Steph experiences in the book, multiple times, I found myself relating to her on such an emotional level, that this book has stayed with me for some time.

Who are the main characters? Stephanie and Nick. If you have read the first couple of books in the series, you might recognize Steph from them. Of course, she was not a favorite character initially, due to her interactions with Cam, but I have to say, this book certainly redeems her, and she quickly became one of my favorite heroines in the series. She’s spunky, independent, and very self-assured, except when it comes to “love.”

You may also recognize Nick, considering he’s also a bartender at Mona’s, the place where Roxy, Jax, and Calla also work. He’s always been the quiet, kind of shy type in all the previous books, so this was a nice change to see and hear him in a more detailed light. He’s very similar to Steph, in that they both don’t want a steady relationship and are hesitant in any interactions beyond “one night stands.” You find out later in the book why this is for him.

Let’s just say that Nick and Steph have an awesome encounter, that surprisingly results in a rushed relationship. Nick steps up to bat, and blows his support out of the park. Steph finds herself falling rapidly in love with him, but she’s confused and blames their situation on her and Nick’s feelings. Once the two of them begin spending more tome together and learning more about each other, they find that they have so much in common and they can love each other easily.

When devastation strikes, Steph questions everything and falls into an absolutely heartbreaking depression that is felt until the last page of the book. It’s so raw, so truthful, and so real. I can definitely see where her confusion comes from, but like you come to expect, Nick quickly and gallantly puts her fears to rest.

“I don’t just love you, I’m in love with you. Hell, I have been for a while and I wanted to tell you that so many times over.” ~ Nick

“I think that is why he insisted I stay with him until my mom whirled into town for Christmas. He was there in these moments when I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn’t fall back to sleep. Those moments when the heavy malaise twisted in discontent.” ~ Stephanie’s POV

“I’d been accused of being standoffish and bitchy. The truth was, it wasn’t that I was mean or unfriendly. I just generally sucked at small talk with people I didn’t know, and most important, I had a severe case of resting bitch face.” ~ Stephanie’s POV

So if you’re in the mood for an emotionally-charged, slow burn romance with heartbreaking twists and a sappy, and extremely satisfying ending, then J. Lynn’s Forever With You may be the perfect companion for you. Be prepared with tissue and maybe a happy read afterwards! Be sure to check out my other reviews on this series!
