review 1: Ephraim and Miriam have been promised to each other since sixth grade. Ephraim is attracted to Miriam because she is not only the prettiest girl in the district, but a Pastor's daughter from a "perfect" family - and being and looking PERFECT is very important to Ephraim. When circumstances prove that Miriam's family is not without blemish, Ephraim makes marsh demands upon Miriam and eventually terminates their relationship, shattering her very person. In an effort to find herself again , Miriam begins to spend time with her new colt and it's trainer, Seth. Seth and his charming family become and increasingly important part of her life over the next months. Meanwhile Ephraim moves on to another relationship with someone he feels deserves his attentions. Miriam's family... more works on healing and finding its rightful place in the community just as their district grows to the point of bursting at the seams and their Bishop makes the decision to divide it into toe parts. He calls upon three of the ministers of the current district to step forward . Miriam's father, John is one of the men selected to take part in a lottery to determine who will become the Bishop of the new district. John is selected, much to his dismay as this job is quite demanding and a burden on one's conscience. Once Ephraim learns that Miriam is now the DAUGHTER OF THE BISHOP - comes GALLOPING back to win her favor. Even though she has begun to recognize that she has feelings for Seth, she feels that she must give her long time relationship with Ephraim a second chance. She immediately begins to compare the two young men. Where Seth gave her the freedom to be her own person, Ephraim makes her every decision for her and even decides to sell the quilt that she made him for his birthday because he feels it is too flashy as it is not ALL tan. The straw that broke the camel's back, however, was when she went to visit her colt and learned that Ephraim had sold it without telling her as he did not approve of women riding horseback ! Once Miriam breaks her ties with Ephraim she needs to figure out how to mend her relationship with Seth. Seth has built his own home and moved his siblings in with him to spare them from the abusiveness of their step-mother and has been suffering over loosing Miriam for weeks. Miriam decides to surprise them all on Christmas morning with cinnamon rolls and smells gifts that she is sure will win their hearts. But can they all forgive her? You will have to complete this quick read to fill in the blanks in this delightful book about the plain people of Apple Lake.
review 2: I received a complimentary edition of this book. I have always liked Amish based books. However, I would have to say that Miriam's Quilt is one of the best Amish books I have read. It had me hooked from the first page to the very last, and even then I was wanting more on the life of Seth and Miriam. I would defiantly recommend this book to readers who love the Amish style of books. I have to say I am sad to see it come to an end. less
