review 1: The series of events that led to this book are portrayed by the author as harrowing. I believe that they might have been, but I couldn't meaningfully connect with the events nor with the author. This book seems honest. The author's heartfelt manner continually tries to engage you. She's just like you and she wants to help, she constantly reminds you. Sometimes it's believable, and other times it's tiresome. This book is heavy on emotion and light on pathology. If you're feeling frustrated and highly emotional by a positive diagnosis of celiac disease, reading this book will probably help you feel more hopeful and positive about the path ahead of you. If you're just wondering what celiac disease is or whether you might have it, you're better off researching on the interne... moret and seeking out more broadly clinical works on the subject.
review 2: I saw the author's interview on the Daily Show and, having recently been more exposed to gluten issues, I thought I would give the book a try. I wanted to learn something and expand my understanding of what celiacs have to deal with regularly. Unfortunately, this book was terrible. I started the first section but skipped it when I realized it was mostly just an autobiography. The second half is supposedly for the reader's journey but I found it to be uninformative and extremely whiny. Yes, celiacs disease sucks and it's unfair. I did not read this book to be told that every single page. Where is the substantive information? less
