review 1: Being a dyed in the wool Austen fan, I had to read this. It's written very well, and the viewpoint of Mary is interesting. She was a rather one dimensional character in Pride and Prejudice. Not sure I buy the storyline, but it was fun. Warning, there is a weird very small portion where she talks about 18th century pornography. Like I said, very weird to include that and unnecessary for sure. And it's very small, so skip it!
review 2: While I may not necessarily recommend this book to friends due to a few elements I was uncomfortable with (a few instances of unnecessary language and content), nethertheless it did make for a suprisingly good read. It was very interesting to imagine how Pride & Prejudice might be seen through Mary's eyes, as I'd always been rather
... more sorry for her. While the author did try to keep in the spirit of a Jane Austen novel in terms of the style of writing, at the same time she managed to make it very readable which I found good (I have always struggled reading Jane Austen, but had no problems with this). So provided you can overlook a few of the negative elements, and if you love all things Jane Austen, it is probably worth a read. :) less

Enjoyable read for the Austen fan. Makes the annoying Mary into a sympathetic character.
