review 1: The Diamonds and Dugouts series continues with this third installment that has headstrong main characters, non-stop flirtatious dialogue, and unrelenting sexual tension all wrapped up in a fun and immensely satisfying story. From start to finish I was fully engaged in the outcome of Peter and Leslie's back and forth battle of the sexes and rooted for their HEA every step of the way.Leslie is good at choosing bad men who walk away from her leaving her to clean up the mess they leave behind. Three years ago she was at her lowest point and threw herself at star pitcher Peter Kowalskin who left before they completed their sexual encounter leaving her confused and her self-esteem bruised and battered. They've formed a friendship since then, as her brother and he are best fri... moreends, which has her ending up on his doorstep when the apartment he rents to her floods. This puts them in close quarters strengthening the sexual tension that's been there for years. Long nights and painful events have them opening up to each other and her falling for Peter against her will. All she wants though is to make something of herself on her own after being brought low by a conniving ex. She doesn't have the time or the heart to be hurt by misplaced feelings again but Peter's past and future win her over and have her fighting to help him see the HEA they could have if only he'll see that he's worthy of love. Leslie is a strong-willed heroine not afraid to go after what she wants. She's smart but easily led astray by her heart early on in life. It's a somewhat hard-hearted Leslie that emerges, one more cautious and not as quick to jump.Peter grew up with an alcoholic father who bashed his dreams and his talent. Peter rose above that to become a star pitcher with many other artistic talents he perfected on his own. He's charming and super sexy and thinks himself unworthy of love. He lives in the moment but his feelings for Leslie are overpowering and has him thinking about the future for a change. It's an uncertain future hanging over his head though as a health issue has him rethinking his future, a future without baseball. I adored Peter from the very start! He has a playful nature and is willing to do whatever it takes to gain Leslie's heart. I ached for his lonely childhood and his continuing loneliness that Leslie could ease if only he'll let her.The sexual tension between Peter and Leslie is off the charts hot and allows for a fun journey and a battle of wills between them. Peter has been attracted to her for a long time but is intimidated by those feelings so he has a tendency to put up an emotional wall when things get too heavy. I found this believable though and didn't hold it against him considering his sad and lonely childhood. The one annoyance amongst an otherwise wonderful storyline is the unexpected appearance of a long-lost relative which came out of the blue and is dropped just as quickly, never to be mentioned again. This event felt unnecessary and out of place with the rest of the plot. Barring that small issue I loved everything about this story, particularly it's mouthwatering hero, and I look forward to the next book in this series!
review 2: Throwing Heat definitely throws off a lot of heat while reading it! Lesley & Peter clash in a way that is fun and oh so hot. I really liked the "back & forth" between the two of them. Peter is trying oh so hard to force Lesley's hand, by placing them both in situations that bring them together. Meanwhile, Lesley is doing all she can to keep her distance...all of this to win a bet! Of course these situations bring out the best and yes sometimes the worst in both of them. Hey, it wouldn't be a good story without a bit of conflict now would it? I enjoyed Throwing Heat so much that I am off to check out the other two Diamond and Dugouts novels, Stealing Home & Playing the Field! I think you should too. less
