review 1: I first saw the show Call The Midwife on Netflix. I binge watched all three seasons. It was sweet and emotional, all at the same time. Then I read this book. A lot of the stories from the book our on the television show. It was raw and real. I loved the music on the show and Jennifer's writing was raw and real. Coming into a new place and learning and growing as a person. They were a lot of lessons learned. Like trying not to judge a person by how they live but how they act. Also learning compassion from the nuns and trying to put yourself in another person's shoes. Loved the book and the show. Read and watch both.
review 2: The first of the midwife trilogy tells the story of Jennifer Lee who became a midwife at the East End of London in the 50s where life was
... more rough with poverty, over population and post war conditions. Lee recounted her encounter with various colourful characters and how lives began and ended. While this is what the TV show was based on, the changed quite a bit of the materials, for example, removing the negative traits of characters while making the characters more likable. I really did not like Lee's writing, her use of words were harsh and dreadful, her account about events were somewhat pretentious and pompous (but I guess that's what happens in most memoirs) but overall it was an interesting read (and I learned about female organs!) less

Likeable characters. Many of the same stories from the TV series, but not all. Great story!
