review 1: If you like the television series, you will love the books. Jennifer Worth takes the reader into Nonnatus House and you immediately feel as if you are there, experiencing what she experienced, feeling the emotions, the joys, the sadness, the true reality of the era and location that the books are set in. Honestly, I found it rather difficult to put the books down, and I have read them several times over
review 2: Mixed feelings about the boxed set; Book #1 "Call The Midwife" was top of the line - however, the second installment dragged considerably, even though it was filled to bursting with amazing events and life stories! I kept waiting for Worth to find her voice the same way she had previously, but many features (i.e., weighty vernacular, overabundance of i
... morensignificant details, etc.) contributed to a "drag" on the progression of the story. Book #3 was more uplifting and enjoyable to read than Book #2, thankfully. In any case, I would highly recommend the series, as there is not much in the way of first-person accounting when it comes to the era of workhouses in UK - I found the information to be interesting as well as terrible, and it should serve as a warning in these days of great wealth disparity in our society, that anything can happen, and has... less

This is the 2nd book in a series of three and is excellent, as is the first.

I should have read the book first before seeing the TV version. Great read!

Fascinating look at working class London in the 1950s.
