review 1: Fairy Godmothers Inc. is a gentle, lovely book, romantic and silly with strangely menacing undertones of modern corporate abuses.Wardell takes the traditional Grimm fairy tales and applies them to modern day corporate culture, rife with office politics, pending litigation, and picky clients. It’s an outstanding premise and she does a great job with it. The characters are endearing, the love-stories sweet and crisis-filled, absurd and endearing. An undercurrent that my politically active mind took away from Wardell’s otherwise light and airy fantasy romance, was workplace oppression in a non-unionized corporate environment. I know, right? Fifty years ago much of the trouble Kate Harris (the heroine of the story) faces with Bubbles (her supervisor) would not have been pos... moresible. Today however, where the constant threat of firings and lawsuits, corporate bullying and thin job markets are a way of life, the tyranny of Fairy Godmothers Inc. is all too believable. The king himself - The Royal Family of an entire kingdom, have to fear the power of a pissed off corporation. Although a fairy tale, and a long time ago (?) in a place far away (?) the realities of Wardell’s universe are Marxian and believable in today’s environment. Without giving away spoilers, among other things, I was intrigued at how to fight against corporate power in Fairy Godmother’s Inc. is a Quest unto itself, but of course the corporation has arranged to be be exempt from questing laws.Unless you're versed of corporate crime and whistle-blower politics, you won’t even notice these political issues I've brought up and will enjoy Fairy Godmothers Inc. on other grounds. So don't be afraid to try it.I recommend Fairy Godmothers Inc. whole-heartedly as a light summer read, charming and endearing, a tale of pink dresses, royal balls, and round about happily-ever-afters with just a touch of dark social commentary.
review 2: 3.5 starsKate has a rather intriguing job: she's a Fairy Godmother. Yes, she's got the wings and her duties really do include creating happily ever after for people. Well, for those people who have paid for it and signed a contract dictating what SORT of "Happily Ever After" they desire. Typically True Love is involved. And Kate has learned how to orchestrate it all, enjoying her job just enough to make it tolerable. And then she gets her latest case.It involves your typical Cinderella story only, Cinderella is NOT so typical and the prince that's SUPPOSED to be involved is, actually, not available. It's the brother of this prince that begins to make this story exciting and turn Kate's life and job pretty much upside down. If you are needing a little bit of fluffery fun, this was quite enjoyable. There's a fair bit of snarky banter that I enjoyed, the love story is smartly written and I like the author's twist on the fairy tale genre. I'm not sure why I wasn't completely thrilled, maybe the ending was just a bit much for me to believe. I couldn't tell if she was just rushing to finish and set it up for another book - the pacing and action just felt off somehow. She had me all the way until the very end, though, and I am still glad I read it, since there is, at least, a happily ever after. less

This book was cute, yet very cheesy. Loved the romance in it, and how the girl was the hero!
