review 1: This is an awesome multicultural book that really shows how people are the same in different cultures. Elliot lives in America, and Kailash lives in India, and they are pen pals, who learn about each others cultures throughout the story. This is really important for young readers to know as they grow up, and Jenny Sue Kostecki-Shaw does a great job at this! Culture and diversity has become so popular in schools, that students need to learn about how even though the colors of skin, or how other people may speak, or what they wear, are just superficial things. The illustrations are so colorful throughout the story, that I think children will really be interested to read it because of the appeal to the eye.
review 2: In this book there are two pen pals, Elliot fro... morem the United States, and Kailash from India, that write back and forth to each other, sharing aspects of their cultures. Through their writings/drawings we see that both boys enjoy the same things just in different ways. For example, they both go to school but have different classes they attend or they both have families but they are composed differently, hence the title Same, Same but Different. This book is appropriate to use with grades K-2 to show students how to celebrate their own culture as well their friend’s and classmates. The illustrations are captivating and really help highlight the details beyond the basic, yet enlightening text. less
