review 1: I would say this is probably more like a 3.5 star read, but I am rounding up. Ambrosia Tisdale is entering her fourth season, she has had a number of marriage offers, but she is still looking for the right man. Duncan's brother died recently, leaving him an earl, and he returns to London to see his uncle and take up his new responsibilities. Ambrosia and Duncan have an encounter in a library on his first night back in town and she ends up mistaking him for a common laborer, she is embarrassed when she learns he is the Earl of Bristol. Duncan is not impressed by Ambrosia, believing that she is another one of the normal ton ladies who pretend to be respectable, but enjoy their bed hopping.Duncan needs money, badly, his friend convinces him to compromise Ambrosia, she is ... morerespectable, she has a large dowry, and a loving family. He goes along with the plan, but never can quite put his heart into compromising her. He actually tries to get to know her and keeps finding out she is deeper than what he sees on the surface. Duncan was kind of hard to like with his scandalous behaviors and his mistresses, but Ambrosia sees more in him than the reader does.Ambrosia is easy to like, but I really wish the reader would have been able to see into her thoughts sooner. Everyone thinks she is perfect, has a perfect life, and is a paragon of virtue, but there is more to Ambrosia. When more of her thoughts were revealed about 75% into the book, that is when I really started liking our heroine.Love scenes were good, good make out scenes, and they had a nice heat level. I will definitely look for more from this author. I think her stories have potential and I did like this book.
review 2: I love a good regency and Compromising Miss Tisdale really fit the bill for me. I grew up on Candlelight Regency novels. I devoured them like candy.Ambrosia is in her fourth season. Poor girl. She and Duncan are polar opposites. She's the more straight laced prim and proper type and Duncan, well, he's a rake. It wouldn't be a regency if he weren't a rake! Let's face it, we all like bad boys and regency bad boys are really the best.Their first meeting is hot..without crossing the line.I loved how their relationship developed and how each of the characters changed, the rake is reformed and Miss Tisdale loosens up quite a bit.Probably the star of the show outside of our two main characters is Tasmin Tisdale. I absolutely loved the scene where she gives Duncan quite an earful. (I'm looking forward to her story, which is coming next)I only wish there could have been a bigger comedown for James, who was a nasty S.O.B.Jessica really has a flair for this period. This book reminded me why I love regency romance. less
