review 1: First off, I really loved this book! It got me hooked and I always told myself 'just one more chapter' before putting it aside for the night. Interesting in this book is that it does not follow the often chosen path of vampires and werewolves, but instead we are learning about Greek Mythology. Elyse is a decendant of what was to be believed the Greek Gods. The only thing she knows is that she ages five times slower than all others, so although she looks like eighteen years old, she actually is over eighty. When she moves into her new appartment, she finds out that there are others, similar to her and all with different abilities, depending on their bloodline. She learns that she is the last healer, her blood can save people but also kill. In addition to all these news, she... more also has to accept being part of a prophecy that the other decendants waited a long time to happen. William is the love of her life, he helps her find her way into this new life and understand what happens to her. He can help her heal, and their connection will intensify here abilities. However, I do have a little problem with the development between Elyse and William. Elyse is a very strong character. After her parents died, she had to survive with the knowledge that she is different, but cannot reveal this to anybody. William is a fantastic character, charming his way around with his ability to make people fall in love with him, but his boyish charm also had some effect on me as well. Though the way how Elyse fell in love with William head over heals was a bit strange. She is questioning everything and everyone and suddenly she totally trusts this guy without much of resistance. There is never a real fight between them. Just trying to put myself into her shoes, I would probably have difficulties adjusting to this situation. Sometimes William is upset with Elyse, but he forgives right away and everything is alright again. I think a little bit more tension here could have been nice. Despite this, the book is wonderfully written, it keeps you on the edge and when I reached the end, I was about to throw a tantrum.... Good thing the second book was out already so I could continue reading :-)
review 2: WORST BOOK EVER!!! I didn't like this book at all. I don't understand how someone who can only heal with blood, which if she loses too much of will cause her to faint, can help her people. You know who could have saved them all from "oppression", the teacher with the ability to stop time! She could have killed any warrior including that stupid Ryder dude when she stopped time. I also don't appreciate the instant love between the main character and the other boy, who I've forgotten the name of already. Also, the fact that these children of the gods became desensitized to the killing of humans really irritates me. They aren't even human anymore. I am definitely not going to continue this series. I'm surprised I finished it at all. less
