review 1: This was SUCH a fun book. I bought it ages ago, because I love Julia, and it is such a cool looking book - it's a kids' book, sort of, in that it is illustrated, and the pictures, style, writing, etc, are really wonderful to look at. And, in theory, accessible to a younger reader..It's really just a shortened version of her life - built presumably from some of the more adult biographies of her. But, the tone is great, the pictures and the way the words and pics work, together is perfect. I'm also just so in admiration of JULIA, as she was so adventurous and cool, and built such a great life/world for herself. Jealous. It's been sitting around the house forever, and I finally (being between YA books and not loving any of the ones I seem to have right on hand) picked it ... moreup and read it cover to cover. She is right around the same age as my Grandma, meaning they were born at the same time, and had some similar life experiences/tendencies -so, that also made it fun to read, causing me to reminisce and think about Grandma... (rich, tall, smart, traveled, party girls, worldly, etc)
review 2: The fifth book I chose to read was "Bon Appetit!"by Jessie Hartland. A fiction book I felt was appropriate to be its twin text was "The Delicious Life of Julia Child was Minette's Feast: The Delicious Story of Julia Child and her Cat" by Susanna Reich. I think that these two are great twin texts because the non-fiction talks about Julia growing up, from her shoe size as a child to her shoe size as an adult and everything in-between. The fiction book goes more into depth about Julia Child as an adult and her relationship with her cat, Minette. While Julia is in the kitchen learning to cook new dishes, Minette is interested in the feast of a fresh mouse. These books can compare because we are learning many things about Julia Child whether the books are fiction or non-fiction. less

I would have preferred a longer book with not so much going on within every page
