review 1: Written in a House Like Jack Built format, this book takes readers on a journey that begins in space and eventually makes history.Part process, part journey story this book gives readers good facts and a solid description of all the people that are involved when a space rock lands on Earth. Illustrations reminded me of Oliver Jeffers, which was a good match for the book's intended audience.Back matter includes more information on the people and objects mentioned in text and even showcases a photo of the car post collision.Recommended for grades 3-5.
review 2: American children's story about a meteorite (I suggest ages 5-9) with colourful painted double-page illustrations. On the 4th page in the review copy I received from the publisher, it's not very obvious fr
... moreom the illustrations what meteorites are (nor even what illustrations are meteorites). The style of painting often depicts things in two dimensions - the object in the blue Peekskill Meteorite cabinet looks like it is in a picture. But subsequent pages give more examples, retaining a funny shape like a ball - aren't meteors rocks? The quantity of text per page varies - the start is too long to keep an infant's interest. Lists of responses to the meteorite grow longer and longer through the story. Lists? Well there is one list with the same subjects (and one additional) for each double-page spread; the responses vary - sometimes with silly results. The AMNH initials appear cryptic on an early page which summarises the story in outline icons but their identity is revealed in the last quarter of the book. Occasionally, the writing was more vivid than the illustration. The small print at the end tells what happened to the people in the story. There is a photograph of the geologist Dr. Mark Anders and teenager Michelle Knapp's red car which shows the hole made by the meteor. less

Great for science (of course) but also for word choice and verbs.
