review 1: Well worth the read. I knew much of what is in the book, I listen to Jimmy Moore's podcasts. :) If you still think fat is bad and high glycemic load carbohydrates are fine then it's time to update your knowledge and protect your health. Unfortunately your doctor is probably giving you outdated and unproven advice if he tells you to eat a low fat, and thus high carbohydrate diet. All of my blood work went from border line bad to healthy after making the change to a high fat low carb diet.
review 2: Everyone should read this book. Over the last year numerous people I know, some only slightly older than I am, have had serious cardiac issues. One fatal, and one about as close as you can get to being fatal. Having a strong desire to see my children's children, I
... more started earlier this year making some life altering changes to my diet. On one of the podcasts I listen to, I found Jimmy Moore. Jimmy was over 400lbs at one point and now, I believe ways around 180 so he has a horse in this race so to speak. What this book is is basically a thesis on cholesterol and our health. The book covers not only what the many types of cholesterol are, but what they do for us, and how to change your numbers through diet and exercise. And when I say numbers, I don't mean your LDL and Total Cholesterol #. If you like books with a twist, this one is for you because it turns out the #s you hear harped on all the time, don't mean a whole heck of a lot, and to get things right, you need to get rid of most of the stuff that is labeled heart healthy in your grocery store and on TV. I should have said spoilers, huh? Well don't let that deter you. The book is in essence a compilation of quotes and opinions from leading Drs, and nutritionists based on their actual practice and analysis of studies, not just the opinions and suggestions of the pharmaceutical industry that would see a Lehman brothers type collapse without Statins and the food industry that also at this point is largely based on grains, corn and soy. At the end of one of the podcast I first heard Moore on the host asked him for 3 tips that are most important in living your life at the highest level. His #1 was don't blindly listen to anybody. Be your own advocate and do your own research and experimentation so. I am not going to say read this and follow or else. But read this, do a little outside research and then look at your own situation. This really concerns everyone as I just saw that new guidelines are coming out that greatly increase the pool of people Drs. will be directed to prescribe statins for. less
