review 1: I'm surprised by how sweet I found this in the end. I'm not a fan of love triangle at all, but I'd heard this book touted for a while so decided to give it a shot. While Lauren's indecisiveness was a tad annoying, as the story progressed, I found myself getting more and more sucked in.It was fluffy, sweet fun set in summer camp with a fluffy sweet empowerment message. Absolutely nothing wrong with that.Thank you to Spencer HIll Press and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for a fair and honest review.
review 2: I enjoyed reading Camp Boyfriend. It's cute and very YA. When I say very YA, I mean the conflicts found in the books are very much like the conflicts you see in a teen's life. However, when I was Lauren's age I was done and over with boy crisis.Lauren can'
... moret wait to get to Camp Juniper Point and be united with her camp boyfriend, Seth. But during that one year they weren't together a lot of things changed. Lauren's family moved. She now looks different, thanks to her mother. And she has a boyfriend, Matt. Before she goes to camp she wants to break-up with Matt, so she can spend Seth's last camp being her girlfriend. But Matt has some bad news, which forces her to be with him until...she can pick up the courage she needs. It made the situation even more complicated when Matt announces that he will go to camp with Lauren.Lauren is insensitive. I thought girls are sensitive, no? Like for example, when Seth left her and Seth fed her the 'I need time to process' excuse. Bullshit. Lauren thought Seth was sweet because he doesn't want her to be in an awkward position. Eh, hey yow! Seth is a coward, can't you see? Or feel? She's a good friend and a careless one. She puts her friends' trust in danger. Always. She gives her trust easily, like it's candy you can buy. But...I'm glad that she came to her senses. She's a good friend. She gives everyone chances. She has attention issues, which is understandable. They've moved to Texas a year ago. Her dad has a new job, which keeps him busy. He barely sees Lauren, and they were really close. Her mom and sister are closer. She feels like an outsider. And maybe that's why she seeks comfort. She seeks Seth. Because Seth is part of her old life. She badly wants her old life back because she thinks it's better than her life now. In the end, she learned how to accept the things she has.Seth is a douche. He said he loves Lauren and wants to be with her. But when you love someone, you would do everything to prove so. That includes not flirting with another girl. How would you feel if a guy says he loves you and then you kinda left him hanging...but then you see him flirting with another girl? What the actual frigging shit! It sounds like he's securing a position. Like when you apply for college. If you're not sure the school you like will accept you, you go apply for another one or two. Just so that if your dream school rejects you, you know someone is there to catch you. It's okay when it comes to things like school, things without emotions. But a person, really? I do believe Seth loved Lauren at one point. But he clearly doesn't want to be with her now. He was just bummed that Lauren has a boyfriend and he has no one.Matt is cute. He's the boyfriend you wish you had during high school. He is sweet, popular, and he has a heart. Wow. Not your stereotypical jock. He loves Lauren, enough to give her a chance. Yes, Matt gave Lauren a chance. Because come one! Lauren humiliated Matt. Everyone knows about Lauren and Seth, except for Matt. Everyone made a fool out of him because of that. But because he is popular, the humiliation didn't last long. Matt is also trouble because of his dad's cheating. More trouble comes when he discovered his parents are getting a divorce and his dad is marrying his other woman. Matt really held his head high, despite the troubles he is carrying. The book isn't limited to romance. There's also family drama and friendship drama. Friendship is important, and I'm Lauren knows that. She gave a lot of chances in the book. She made a lot of friends too.Camp Boyfriend is sweet and friendly. It's a light read that you will surely enjoy. I liked the whole plot, though it was bland. less
