review 1: Several reviewers have already pointed out Merrow's recycling prowess. I'll forgive Merrow that, since I put up with Calmes, Kell, and Glenn, and we can't hardly have double standards, innit? What isn't acceptable is this book: Merrow displays NONE of her writing abilities here. This book is barely a draft, with everything simplified to - dare I say this - a Lynn Hagen level. And for those fortunate enough to not have read a Hagen book, this literally means that empires and erections rise and fall within the space of three sentences.I get that maybe she wanted to write a novella, but this is NOT how a novella is written - by cutting all the narrative out and leaving a Wikipedia article in its place. Take a feather out of Lanyon's book next time. Harsh, I know. But I say thi... mores only because I know Merrow can do so much better.
review 2: From an unknown to me author, this would have been a weak four. But since it's a Merrow and I pretty much have a shrine for her and her awesomeness, this is a disappointing 2.75 stars.Competent writing still, but there was none of the charm that was abundant in the author's other work. The MCs were forgettable and sounded pretty generic and I didn't connect at all to Kurt and his heartbreaking loss and subsequent moving on with Matt. It all just felt so detached and impersonal. I wanted to see some personality and at least a flicker of chemistry between the characters, but nada. Everything was just so uninspired. Maybe it's because this wasn't set in the UK - setting was San Francisco, I think - and I missed Merrow's awesomely British narrative. Maybe it's because I didn't even smile once while reading this and that's a first for me when it comes to this author.Oh, and one other thing. My brain usually provides a Kinks soundtrack when I'm reading a Merrow book, but nothing with this one. This actually bothered me more than anything else. less

Sweet story about recovering from loss and learning to open up again. Matt's just adorable!

This is a sweet, fast paced story. For my taste to bland and to short.

It has a perky cute twink in it - how could I not love it? :)
