review 1: Little Red Writing is a wonderful book for young readers. Within the story is another story written in a style often found in comic books. Although this creates a busy setting, the book creates a stimulating environment with a lot of detail. However, if the reader is not a fan of the non-traditional method of recreation, perhaps this read is not for them. Overall, the pencil drawn illustrations pull the chaotic story together quite nicely.
review 2: Joan Holub & Melissa Sweet crafted a cute & clever picture book about the writing process. While enjoyable & creative, I found it lacking in instructional value. I had hoped I'd be able to use this book much earlier on in the instructional process of how to plan, draft, write, revise, & edit. However, "Little Red Wr... moreiting" is much better for kids who've already been extensively taught the writing process along with its ins & outs and serves best as a reminder/refresher of things already covered & nearly mastered.I laughed throughout....but only because I personally "get" the writing process. Most young readers will laugh too, but learn little.Recommended....as a review tool, NOT as an initial instructional (though very fun!) picture book about how to write. less
