The Cadence of Grace
review 1: Although I enjoyed a lot about this book (the setting, the plot etc.), there was an overall sadness to it that made me not want to continue on to the rest of the series. Gideon was not a likeable character for at least 3/4 of the book so I didn't really even hope Lonnie fell in love with him. The whole story was tragic and heavy until Gideon finally shows some determination to change. If you are looking for a light romance that you can relax with, this is not what you're looking for.
review 2: First, let me say that the cover of this book is beautiful and eye catching. I won't go into a detailed description of the story, as that's been done in most of the other reviews. This was definitely a good read. Bischof fleshed out the characters in a way that made me
... more either, love, like, dislike, or be indifferent to them. And, I can tell that she did her research into the wonderful Virginia Blue Ridge mountains that I love. There are mountain people who, to this day, make moonshine, over indulge, get rowdy, sometimes violent. Both sides -- the good and the not so good -- come through in the book. There is a subtle thread of God's direction and presence in Lonnie's life that does not overpower the story or become "preachy." Bischof shows us that through love, example, and the leading of the Holy Spirit, there can be redemption for all, even hard living men like Gideon. less
