review 1: Wow, what a story. This is a well-written story, just like the first. I felt as if I was there with the characters through it all. I could imagine myself in the mountains, I could feel the longing and the sadness. It was painful to see Lonnie and Gideon separated after all they went through in the first book. I ached with Lonnie when she realized that she would never bear more children with Gideon. I felt sorry for Cassie, who like Lonnie, just wanted to be loved. The characters are not black and white, they are complex, like real people are. There are not "bad guys" (except for maybe Lonnie's dad), there are just hurting people trying to make it in life. This is not a "feel-good" story. It's hard, it's complicated, like life is. The characters are put through the refining... more fire and that is painful to read. I can only hope that in the last book, there will be a beautiful reward for them. I can't wait to read the final book, because their story isn't complete. I want to know where God is leading Lonnie, Gideon, and even Cassie now that they have surrendered their lives to Him. I can't wait to read what is in store for them. This may all sound silly, I mean, it is just a book. But, I guess that tells you how good this author is.
review 2: Though My Heart is Torn is my kind of book. I adored the first in the series titled Be still my Soul and this one was just as good as the one before it. Bischof knows how to weave a remarkable story. I love that as I read I am dying for things to go Lonnie’s way, but every time it seems she gets dealt a bum hand. Lonnie is married to wayward Gideon, and they seem to have finally worked out their issues only to find out Gideon has another wife! Seriously, I love it. Lonnie’s heart is broken and she doesn’t know what is going to happen to her and the man she has grown to love. As the reader, it breaks your heart to watch Lonnie and Gideon go through this tear-jerking trial. It is unbelievable. I don’t want to spoil it too much, so I’ll just tell you to go out and pick it up and read it. You won’t regret it! It is an awesome book and I honestly can’t wait to read the next one less
