review 1: I asked Father Christmas for this book because I love John Bishops comedy. What I should have remembered is that Bishop didn't start comedy until he was forty and this is an autobiography which naturally begins when he is born... Prior to comedy Bishop's world revolved around sport - mainly football. I don't like sport, and I hate football.. see my problem? The book is very well written but just did not keep me interested at all. I ploughed through it to get to the comedy-life parts, which are only in the last third of the story and which seemed to be squeezed in around further sports achievements. If you know his back story and love Bishop, or if you have a passion for sports, in particular football ;), then buy this book. If you want a comedians life story then stick to t... morehe autobiographies by Michael McIntyre and crew :)
review 2: I've always quite liked John Bishop as a comedian, and always thought he's a fairly genuine guy. This autobiography reinforces this view and I can honestly say that the book is a good read, full of highs and lows that only come from being a comedian. John's writing style is intelligent and easy and you can really hear him talking as you read the anecdotes. Sometimes he is a bit gushing but I have the utmost respect for the guy for the way in which he struggled for his famliy, his marriage and his kids. If you want to laugh and cry in equal measure, whether man or woman, then give this book a chance. If you don't, still give it a go, I don't think it will disappoint you. less
