ColorCure – First Application Trial & Error

So, I tried ColorCure for the first time today. I ordered Fired Up for my first color since I like orange.

I had prepped my nails earlier in the day (removed invisible cuticles, clipped, and filed). I was ready and waiting for my ColorCure’s arrival!

I set up everything I would need to do my mani.

I was ready…

I was set…

And I started…and messed up!

I put the ColorCure on too thick and it was curing funny.

Damn. I had to take it off.

I grabbed an alcohol wipe and wiped the ColorCure off my nails right away. Most of it came off. All that was left was a thin residue that made my nails look like they were stained orange.

I got my nail polish remover, put some on a cotton ball and scrubbed. It didn’t want to come off.

I grabbed an orange stick, wiped one nail to make it wet, and then scraped gently with the orange stick.

CAME RIGHT OFF!

I repeated until all the fingernails I’d applied ColorCure to were clean.

I washed my hands and went right back to application, using WAY thinner coats.

I found that for the second and third (yes, I used three coats because I don’t like my color to be even slightly see-through unless I do that look intentionally) coats that I should apply a little extra and remove as much as possible with the brush as I went. Otherwise, the brush seemed too dry.

I’m sure I’ll get the hang of the coats as I practice more. I’m used to the Trushine gel, which is thicker overall.

Just to make sure I got everything cured all the way through (since I was using the Trushine lamp) I did two and a half cycles in the lamp for coat three.

Better safe than sorry.

Since I wanted to do wrap accents, I buffed the nails I planned to apply wraps to, wiped just those nails briefly with an alcohol wipe (like I’d seen demonstrated in a wrap over ColorCure video), and then applied the wraps like normal.

The results turned out great and I love Fired Up! Its a beautiful, true orange.

(Oh, and FYI, so you don’t panic… ColorCure kinda smells like burnt plastic. But the scent isn’t strong, and it fades as your mani is cured. I have to stick my fingers right up to my nose and sniff hard to even be aware of it now – 20 minutes after mani.)

Here’s a pic of my final product – Fired Up ColorCure with Butterfly Dream wrap accents (GGG):
