review 1: The rules are simple:1. Never sit on the front row2. Never sit in the last two3. Never, ever make yourself stand out in any way4. Never make eye contact5. Never touch anyone's stuff6. Never talk to big kids7. Never talk to girls8. Never mess with the bully9. Never be the last one on the bus10. Never, absolutely never, mess with the bus driverand while it may seem simple it leads to a very funny ride to school and back home. The illustrations competely take this book to the next level as the kids imaginary feelings and vivid descriptions are brought to life for the reader in an exellent rendering. I would save this for older readers, but it would also do well as a read-a-loud to younger readers who could then view the pages.
review 2: James gave his little broth
... moreer Kyle ten survival rules for riding the school bus. They were:1. Never, absolutely never, mess with the bus driverKyle follows all the rules! He is extremely nervous to ride the bus. The rules only increase his anxiety. Kyle survives the first day! He even strikes up a friendly conversation with the bus bully!Kyle walks home with a sense of bravery. He discovers his brother's rules are stupid. His brother comes home with a black eye so maybe he should have taken his own advice LOL!This book is a cute literacy device. The pictures are breath taking! They provide a real sense of fear on the school bus. Children look like terrible snake and lizards. The illustrator really captured a child's fear of riding the bus. The bus is not scary at all.Children could make up a set of ten rules for riding the bus. Children could sequence the story. Children may write an opinion piece about the book. They may write whether or not they think the bus rules will work for them. Students could also describe characters, setting, plot, problem and resolution. Students could also describe Kyle less
