review 1: Dear Luke is a great book for the summer: full of imaginary pop-culture artifacts, it is fast and fun if you don't take it too seriously. As a proud movie/tv geek, I had fun reading this book, especially when I was able to catch some of the more obscure references. Don't try to finish it all in one sitting, otherwise the different sections will start to jumble in your brain...take a break and read Dear Luke when your required summer reading for work or school gets too onerous and you want a quick laugh.
review 2: I won this through first reads giveaways but it was several months before I received it. I'm starting to pick through it now and have mixed feelings about it. One thing that's nice is you can pick and choose which chapters you want to read based on you
... morer interests. I've enjoyed the Breaking Bad segments and The Curious George segments the most so far. Some chapters are definitely better than others. The humor is also not something everyone will enjoy. Sometimes the jokes are fantastic, other times they are a little obvious. I find it a little confusing when the characters speaking go from talking about the storyline they are from as if it is just their regular life, to commenting on plot holes in the story they are from. Or in other words, inconsistently breaking the third wall. Of course in a parody these are things that can and should be overlooked, but in this case it did detract slightly from the humor of it in the same way having to explain a joke to someone disrupts the overall effect. Anyway, overall I wouldn't say don't get this, especially if you're really into parodies on popular stories. It's good for some laughs for sure. Just be aware that it's not going to be humor for everyone to enjoy and it's not really good clean fun either. This is good for some laughs, but don't be surprised if you have to skip around to find them. less
