review 1: I read Balloon Animals after I had read Living Dead Lovers and I found myself comparing the two (probably shouldn't have). Because of this I didn't find BA as funny or engaging as LDL which took away some of the enjoyment of the story but it was still a good book in its own right. The characters in BA were still quirky and an enjoyment to read even though I was comparing them to the characters in LDL. I seemed to develop more of a love for Cabbage than I did for Jonny. I didn't completely understand why he did some of the things he did (although I think a certain best friend might be responsible for said things!) but I found myself still wanting to know how the story ended.A rather short review but I am certainly a fan of Jonathan Dunne's work and will definitely keep an ey... moree out for anything else he writes (I've already got my eye on The Nobody Show)! I would recommend his books to those of you who have a dark sense of humour and enjoy a laugh with your stories!
review 2: First, I don't have much of a sense of humor. For this brand of stoneresque humor, none at all. So the nonstop hilarity others have found in this book, was not part of my experience of Balloon Animals. So stripped of its most often cited best quality, I found it mildly entertaining in an adolescent silly kind of way. I can think of a lot of people I know who would love It. I mean rip roaring love it. And for them, and perhaps you, I heartily recommend it. But if you don't appreciate a lot of modern day standup comedy, then I would encourage you to skip this one. less

This book sounds like a wonderful oddity. I need to get my hands on it.
