… because I could not reduce it to top five no matter how I looked at it, so this is the best of the best that I’ve read in 2017. Overall, I had a pretty good year in reading. Since starting bookstagram I had been a lot more careful with my reading choices than in the first half of the year when I was reading mainly romance.
I will do a December and yearly wrap-up in the nest few days and add a few stats as well because… why not?!
So the top 6 books I read are, in no particular order:
Feed (Newsflesh #1) by Mira Grant. I feel like I am repeating myself, but I LOVE ZOMBIE BOOKS! I’ve had my eyes out for this book for quite some time, so when I found it for cheap, I had to buy it. It did not disappoint me at all. I got all the action, character development and zombie extravaganza to keep me happy and hooked it. I really loved the intrigue/mystery feel to it as well, so for me it was a solid 5/5 stars. Can’t wait to pick up the sequel: Deadline.
Bird Box by Josh Malerman. This book was on my list of most surprising books of 2017 as I was expecting it to be ok, not AMAZING! This book was incredible. I cannot talk too much about it without spoiling it, but if you get a chance to read this book, please give it a chance. It did not disappoint me at all. Personally, it was a feast.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (Harry Potter #1) by J.K. Rowling. I am very late in joining the bandwagon for Harry Potter, but it’s never too late, is it? I am in love with this book and I am wondering why I haven’t picked it up so far. Definitely a series I’d be looking at finishing this year.
Six of Crows (Six of Crows #1) by Leigh Bardugo was incredible. Out of this world. Fantastic. I loved every damn minute of it. Kaz and Inej are my favourite characters and their backstories are done sooooo well. Hell! the whole crew is fantastic! Loved it from start to finish. I need to buy Crooked Kingdom and I am set for life. A little bit worried that it’ll not be as good? Yes, but I need these characters in my life again, so I am reading it.
A monster calls by Patrick Ness was one of those books that make your heart to bleed for the characters. Beautifully written and in point, with characters that come to life from the page, and a monster to show the way, A monster calls is the book I would recommend you read, now! Can’t wait to see the movie now.
Illuminae (The Illuminae Files #1) by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff wrote a beautiful book. I am just over the moon in love with this book. I read this book in 2 days, and it’s not a small book either. I don’t even like Science Fiction in general, I find them confusing and pompous, but this book was incredible. The writing was great, the characters were alive, and the format was actually brilliant. The format worried me the most as I haven’t had a good history with books consisting of messages and emails (Fifty shades anyone?), but it was amazing, enhancing the reading experience rather than hindering it.
So what have you read that blew your socks off in 2017. Any of these on your lists? Anything you can recommend for me to read in 2018?
Lots of Love,
Jane.
