review 1: Inspiring and fascinating, but i am giving it only three stars because of the depiction af the way Pineapple's father's green card is "not renewed". As someone who works with immigration on a daily basis, this is simply not possible legally. There must be a lot more to the story and the fact that the author immediately goes to condemning the USG while either failing to investigate what really happened or choosing not to share the whole story undermines his credibility.

A good re-cap of the life of homeless families growing up in New York City in the 1980's and 1990's.

This made me wish I'd read more of Kozol's early books, but it's a fine read on its own too.
