review 1: To those who don't know Jordan Lynde, she is a self-described teen fiction writer. Her target audience is the age group 12-18. So before anyone over the age of eighteen starts bashing this book, keep that in mind. I read Gold Rush before it was on Wattpad, back in 2008 when it was posted to Quizilla. Yes, that means the author was only IN EIGTH GRADE when she wrote this. I've been a fan of hers for a long time and have watched her writing technique grow.I found GOLD RUSH to be a very short and enjoyable read. It wasn't plot heavy, but she had said from the beginning that it was going to be a short read. Although I think all the characters should be younger (especially since Jordan herself was young when she wrote it). It would fit better. Otherwise, I enjoyed my book. Not ... moremy favorite by her, but not my least favorite. (I have no least favorites). So give it a chance. And remember, if you're over 18....this book probably isn't for you.
review 2: I was actually quite excited to start Gold Rush. As I read a partial of the unpublished version, I was really curious to see the changes. I wanted to see the transformation of a first-draft to a fully polished novel, and though the transformation was great, the novel itself failed my expectations a little bit.We have the typical good-girl who dedicates her school life to studying. When the super popular boy band Gold become the newest students at Oakwood Academy, Iris finds her life tipping in a different direction. She didn’t fall at their feet like all the other girls, and that’s how she finds herself surrounded by the boys in an insta-friendship. But Rian, the lead singer of the band, finds himself wanting Iris as more than a friend, but she isn’t too sure with his playboy tendencies...If you’re looking for a fun and light read then this is your book. It was something I found easy to read, it was entertaining and I liked the diversity within each character- all enjoyable to read. Also, without spoilers, I really liked how there was a ‘never be ashamed of who you are’ message imbedded in there because that’s a message everyone should live by.The one thing I would have liked is more character development. Throughout the story we don’t see any changes in the characters. They were a little too immature and cheesy for my taste; they weren’t really mature for their age and some of the “Do not!” and “Do too!” dialogue didn’t seem fitting for their age group. That being said, their immaturity reminded me a lot of school years and I liked that I was able to relate to the characters somewhat.Overall it was a good read. It was fun, light, cute and just the right length. less
