Pig Trilogy
review 1: While I enjoyed this, I didn't like it as much as the first two in the trilogy, perhaps because I read it as an e-book, which didn't seem to fit well with Caldwell's style. Kitty and Kieran have settled down, with the various ghosts, in Kitty's newly purchased castle; Lolly and Aaron happily live on the nearby pig farm. Then Declan Tovey reappears. The four had buried his bones, or so they thought, sure that one of them had murdered the thatcher. But there's another explanation for the bones, and old history is reconsidered.
review 2: I think I would have done better if I had read all three books of this trilogy in a row. I found book number 1 to be so witty and funny. Book 2 just dragged. This book tied everything up and the lesbian pig concept did make me
... more laugh. But this book (along with book two) were pretty tragic and the stereotypical British lord of the manor was just too much of a farce for me. The conversations were so repetitive and lacking "meat". It was tiresome between what people were thinking and what they weren't saying and the descriptions of those dynamics. In essence, I think this trilogy could have been one decent book. I kept thinking about why I wasn't enjoying this writing and I am wondering if the author is in the line of a storytelling tradition? If these stories were told aloud in this slow and languid way (with so much repetition) over a series of sessions I think they might be effective. The problem might be that this story was meant to be TOLD to an audience, not written down. less

These tree books are a delight! If you like quirky purely Irish storytelling, read them!

I'm sad - the last of Pig. Enchanting books. Make me want to go back to Connemara.
