review 1: After reading a some ridiculously good books by Josephine Myles (The Hot Floor, Handle With Care, The First Impressions shorties), I find this one a bit disappointing. Well, I liked Dan’s character here. Something’s missing in this book. I’m not sure if it’s the lack of convincing backstory as to why Robin’s an extremely irritating sod or the “strange” but unsupported characterization of the secondary characters. Plus, the supposed “hot scenes” here aren’t that promising. The last chapter was also was very anti-climactic. I just don’t like it whenever I feel like skipping a page or two in trying to move forward with the story. Arrgghh. I don’t like giving this a low rating but sadly, it didn’t work for me…Rating: 2 out of 5 ... morestars
review 2: What can I say. I love Ms. Myles style of writing. In fact, I close to catching up to reading everything she has written thus far. And this book is another one that I am happy I chose to pick up and read. The characters are likable in their own sense, there is a good plot and a solid ending that isn't tragic. It shows the chemistry between the two main MC's and the side characters play just as an important part as the others. Plus, did I mention the length of the book. I like books that are a bit longer because it gives the author more time to develop the depth of the plot and characters. Though, sometimes, they can make it drag on with unimportant clutter, but Ms, Myles doesn't do that. So, Dan who can't swim, is a travel writer. His newest assignment is to trek up the canal on a tiny vessel and make an article to try to help bring more light to the area(bring more tourists). Then he is distracted by a sexy and ends up ramming into the sexy man's boat. Sexy man aka Robin, is not a Dan Fan(yet) when he first meets him. In fact, he isn't much of a Dan Fan at first, it takes him a while to 'warm' up to Dan. But oh when Robin finally accepts the attraction he has towards Dan, the sparks ignite. Robin is a type of man who doesn't want to play around, though that is what Dan is known for. Perhaps, Robin will be that one man who will change Dan's players status.Dan doesn't have long to stick around. He is only there to write his article and then he will be back off to home. Though home, is a large empty loft. He really only has one best friend, whom is witty and you can't help but like. As his short Robin fling is coming towards an end, he starts to ponder where 'home' really is: London or with Robin. Will they both be able to come to terms and willing to make sacrifices to stay together or will they just walk away at the end with some good memories. I really enjoyed reading about Robin and Dan. I like reading about characters who aren't perfect, because no one is perfect in real life. It makes them much more believable when they have flaws. I wouldn't complain if there was a sequel that included Dan's best friend.... :-) less
