review 1: Not as psychologically deep as other graphic nf i've read, but the voices really rang true. I realize artwork is very subjective; i found the author's drawing to be a little boring, and was irritated by the use of color panels. That said, i have an atypical brain w/ sensory issues, and things like the color/font of paper are problematic for me.I'd def recommend this book, esp.after reading other Katrina stories, the the books about Baptist Hospital. That made me understand the panel with all the dog kennels in the hospital.
review 2: Just an astonishing work--and a really important example of graphic journalism and what the graphic novel/nonfiction can achieve. I got to meet Neufeld and hear him speak at a conference recently, and he is an inspiring example of
... more how artists continue to play an invaluable in helping all of us understand the major events not just of history but of the present day. I urge anyone who cares about the city of New Orleans and/or what it was like to live through Katrina and, more importantly, the aftermath, to check out this book. less
