review 1: I found this book in a popular bookstore in Philippines. When I saw the title, I was curious and couldn't even wait to buy it, since I know Joshua Harris already about his previous books (which is also one of my faves read) I believe that the digging won't just be on the cover page. The feeling shouldn't last on the title of the book to where I've seen it, and to where I've first felt it. So it's good that one of my friends knew that I couldn't contain anymore the longing I've had when I saw the book, so she bought it for me, gladly, gratefully! So again, it was a gift for me...:)This is probably the only nonfiction novels I've quickly finished. In some YA (fictions) its so easy to listen and imagine whats going on within the novel...However in most non-fictions, you have ... moreto learn, to understand deeply, and even to experience what's in the book so that you can relate easily. As for me, Harris made it easy for the readers to understand what's inside the book. It became a personal book for me, which like he's talking to me personally - sharing me all his experiences, the great and good things that God has done in his life, and dug me deeply so that I could clearly understand the love of GOD which's saved me and continuously saving me. This is where I could easily imagine everything in the book. It also answered most of my questions about some conflicts in the Bible that I can't truly understand.***I hope, those people who's got an interest to read this book will also be able to relate, to understand and be challenged in which their lives will never be the same again.Thumbs up to Joshua Harris!!!And all Glory to God for his good work...
review 2: Dug Down Deep : Building Your Life on Truths That LastJoshua HarrisFrom the Publisher: What are you going to build your life on? Dug Down Deep is systematic theology like you've never seen it before. Readable. Relevant. Powerful. As best-selling author Joshua Harris shares his own journey from apathetic church-kid to student with a burning passion to truly know God, you'll be challenged to dig deep into the truths of God's word. With humor, conviction and compelling insight Dug Down Deep covers the basics of faith--God, scripture, Jesus, the cross, salvation, sanctification, the Holy Spirit and the church. Don't settle for superficial faith, dig deep. Review: This was a good, easily read systematic theology book. I found the author’s journey to be very interesting and blended well with his theology. He is able to explain his understanding of theology to be transparent and well developed. I agree with much of his theology and am encouraged that younger people are holding to a Biblical theology by using the whole Bible and not parts of it. He has a fantastic story of mentorship and friendship with CJ Mahaney which is encouraging. Too often today people are coming up with Theology that is ‘new’ and this man has embraced the historical doctrine from the Bible.I would like to thank Above the Trees and Multnomah for allowing me to read and review this book in return for a free copy and I was never asked to write a favorable review by anyone. less
