review 1: It was ok, but not stellar. I like the fact that the paranormal element was in the setting, an inn haunted by spirits, and that the protagonists are regular guys to whom the spirits manifest. I wasn't very interested in the main couple. The insta-love is always a hard sell for me and I didn't really feel the connection between the main characters. There were a few word choices that I didn't like, for example the use of bum instead of ass. I am not a native speaker, so I had the impression bum was a sort of euphemism and it was annoying.
review 2: CharactersCade Wyatt – Built, strong, sexy and as sweet as they come. A simple guy who doesn’t blow his own trumpet even when he knew he could. Comfortable in his skin he has a vulnerability to him that if you blin
... morek you just might miss it. Ethan Roberts – On a break away from work, but not opposed to a little fun or a whole lot of eye candy if that’s all he can get. While he is easy going, he is also confident and has a steady hand when it comes to business. The PlotEthan has decided to take some time away from the city and the hustle and bustle of his hectic life, and his poison of choice is the Whiskers' Seaside Inn.Arriving at the inn, he is immediately caught up in lust for the handyman and curiosity about the inn. However when an opportunity presents itself – Ethan has to think long and hard about his next move, as not only is he caught up in a passionate interlude with the luscious Cade but the inns longest staying guest make the choice a hard one to make.Surprise ElementWhen i started this book i didn’t expect the ladies to throw me for a loop. I expected my surprise to come in the form of some mundane thing about the book – style of writing, pace, or something just as similar. I am prejudice to these two they are brilliant together, so i expect nothing less than as close to perfection from them every time (Sorry ladies – but i am holding true to these standards for you) Anyhow these two mixed it up on me in this book and it was a total surprise. I have read just about everything they have done together and i can almost pick out their individual style of the characters they introduces us to, with ETHAN’S CHOICE i really didn’t know who was holding the hand of which character. In one of my earlier reviews i said about these two “I love collaboration that works. Mason and Hill have a style all their own that works well. Mason bring the angst and Hill brings the humanity – a brilliant combo”© Erotic Horizonand it still hold true, Mason is that hold the torch under the sheet telling ghost story type and Hill is the grounded force that gels the party together. However they mixed it up on me in this one – i really didn’t know who was doing what character, the paranormal stuff definately Mason, Hill a whole lot of the smut – other than that, i jut held on for the ride. PredictabilityI like the fact that straight off in the blurb, the predictability was dealt with, so everything we get is fine print and these ladies have some sting with the details. Smut/Ick FactorYou all know i love my smut, but Ethan and Cade from the moment they meet, there was a chemistry between them that is almost tangible and it didn’t take them long before they were at it. However this is one of those books where the imagination and the spoken words did it for me – these two had some fantastic things that they wanted to do to each other and they were not shy about saying it and thinking it. PositiveFirst thing that strike me was the loads of description the ladies uses in this book – everything had a smell, a taste, a feel and just a sense about it. It cemented a whole lot of the book and made everything more pronounced and lends an air to the drama that was happening behind the front desk of the Inn.I am not sure if “Whiskers' Seaside Inn” is a real place but the description of the place is so clear and the little story that goes with it is so sweet. The support characters they introduce us to are no fun – really they are moody, irritable and downright scary at times and i jumped a few time at some of the eeriness of the scenes – nicely done. There was a nice mix of acceptance and paranoia to the entire happenings at the inn – which i thought was a good balance. It would have been too convenient if everyone accepted the spooky going on’s behind the scene. The paranormal element was well written, lots of back story, the eventual sightings, the scary and the mystery that surround them was a nice touch – i actually ended up liking these ghost a lot.I was impressed with the fact that every time i think i have a handle on the plot – something new crops up. (The permanent guest, and ghost and Spirit revelation). The ladies left us on a high and at a point that i had so many scenarios going through to my mind, but all in all i like the HEA for all involved.NegativeNothing to nit pick pick about, the book had a clear path to where it was going. The protags wrapped themselves up into the life of the inn and the people of the inn.(Not a negative – more a comment) The main protags were not as developed as i would have liked, however as this is the first book in what is to be a series i am looking forward to more of the background to the guys as the series develops.CoverNekkid guy and no facial features, what more could i ask for, i liked. The thing of note on the cover is the picture of the inn at the bottom. While i liked it i didn’t love the overall picture. I however really really like the bottom bit, i am a storm and rain sort of person, so the overcast – eerie feel did it for me. less
