review 1: At eighteen, this book means quite a lot to me, and I’m sure if I was older, it would mean even more. As a person who has struggled with anxiety and depression and as a great lover of her music and that of the folk scene, I found solace in her eloquent recollections, absolution in her tales of her relationships, and things I never knew about her and some of my favorite musicians and people in the world through her narratives. She writes beautifully and tells the captivating tales of her life. Sweet Judy Blue Eyes is definitely one of my favorite books.
review 2: Judy Collins' music, along with that of her contemporaries Janis Joplin, James Taylor, Crosby Stills and Nash, Bob Dylan, etc.,formed a part of the backdrop of my life in the sixties. Because I was n
... moreot a very big fan of hers I didn't really know much about her life. This was an eye-opener. She had to overcome 20 years of difficulties and challenges on her way to sobriety. From what she writes about her life in the sixties, I'm surprised she can remember any of it! There was tragedy in her life - she really lost her only child twice. First in a custody case when he was a young child, and later in life to suicide. But she writes with clarity about those years and I respect her for overcoming her abuse of alcohol and drugs. The main reason I read this book is because she, at one time, built a home on Music Mountain in Falls Village, Ct., also known as Canaan (and she wrote a song about it - "Been to Canaan." It has since been sold. I was curious to learn what she had to say about that home, because Falls Village is so very dear to my heart. I was hoping that she found it to be a healing place. But she never made a mention of it in the book. Makes me wonder if her time there was filled with sadness because of her personal problems. I hope not. I am happy to say, that her recent years have been happy ones! less

Read much like a Wikipedia article--lots of names, dates, facts--but little emotion or style.
