Super Hans’ Big Beat Manifesto exceeded all expectations

Comedy character Super Hans, made famous from the hit TV programme Peep Show, brought the house down in his bizarre but magnificent Leadmill DJ set.

Doors were open at 7:30pm on November 24th 2017 but Hans himself didn’t appear on stage until just after 9pm. We were told by Hans on the event poster that “the longer the note, the more dread. Get ready for a 247 second long D” so we were fully prepared for the strangest of possibilities.

Matt King, the brains behind the Super Hans character, strutted with authority onto the Sheffield stage and gave the crowd a hat-full of feel good and wild beats, varying from remixes of David Bowie’s ‘Let’s Dance’ and The Beatles’ ‘Here Comes The Sun’.

You can see a montage of some of his best moments here, uploaded to YouTube by Molly Williams, an attendee of the show:

It wasn’t all just big beats and savagery in this set, we also had some classic reminiscing on some of Super Hans’ greatest moments in the Peep Show era, throwing all sorts of assorted food at the crowd. For avid watchers of the series, you would have loved the moment where he threw Crunchy Nut into the crowd.

We also learned what Hans was getting up to after Peep Show finished airing; he has found himself a German girlfriend called Umlaut who doesn’t speak a word of English, which resulted in some wonderful crowd interaction from Hans asking his audience to say hello.

Callum Galloway, someone who attended the show, has called the event “the craziest night of the year, but definitely one of the best.”

“The way he controlled the crowd was that of a seasoned veteran, not a television gimmick. He really is an icon of British television and his adoring fan base proves this point.”

When asked about the admission price of £15 and whether or not it was worth it, Galloway stated “that’s the going rate for most Leadmill gigs but on first impressions I didn’t see this a gig. Now that I have seen it in the flesh, it’s not only 100% a gig, but also one that everyone has to see.”

It sure was a night to remember for those in attendance, a wonderful reminder to all those who love Peep Show that the comedy remains relevant and witty even to this day. Super Hans will forever remain our favourite “crack-addled maniac” in the words of one Mark Corrigan.

Verdict: 4/5
