review 1: The art is meh to me, but I'm sure it would be bright and lovely to construction-loving preschoolers. I also love that kitties are doing construction workers -- cats don't just do prissy things like play with yarn. And at first I was grouchy that one kitty had a pink hard hat, but then I thought, hey, when was the last time a book explicitly included either A) A femme construction worker or B) A pink-loving male construction worker? So nice work all around. Though it ended a bit abruptly.
review 2: This seems awfully familiar. It's Machines at Work with kitties! Definitely some kid appeal here.I mostly had issues with the text. a picture of a backhoe putting dirt in a dump truck goes with the text: Into the dump truck/onto the backhoe./Move that dirt! The dirt ... morehas to go in the backhoe first so that line should come first. I'm also not a fan of "on with the hats" and "out with their pails". All I can think is "Off with their heads!"Again, kids are NOT going to care so this is a great book for those construction loving toddlers out there. Oh and guess what they build. Bet you can't guess. It's NEVER been done. I'm being harsh, but it can't be that hard to build something else!Oh and the ONE female kitty has a pink hat? What the heck! I don't even like pink! Can we PLEASE stop using that color as a gender separation?!End rant. Sorry author. Really, sorry. :( less
