review 1: You know the kind of book where everything is leading up to this huge dramatic epic scene that will take your breath away, maybe have some major twists, even tears? This is that kind of book. Tons of build-up. The problem is that the big fireworks show is more like a wet sparkler, or one of those stick things they give you at the firework stand to light your real fireworks with. I think they are called duds. But, it does't mean the book is bad. It has quite a few redeeming qualities about it. I like the whole elf thing. That is a fresh idea. And, the author does a great job with the secondary characters. They are not one dimensional stereotypes, but well planned characters with depth and backstories. Also, the main character, Keegan, goes from being a bratty little shallow ... moregirl to a more concerned and less materialistic young lady as the story goes on - which is nice in character development. So, I think the book is worth reading, but I'm hoping for more excitement and surprises in the next one.
review 2: 2.5/5I don't really understand the title after reading this book. It doesn't really make sense, seeing as you only ever hear about war for the majority of the book. What I didn't like was Keegan's obsession with Rourke and his creepy stalking capabilities. Their relationship just felt off...especially towards the end of the book (everything just felt forced).I don't know, maybe this book just wasn't for me. I just wish Keegan had been a stronger female character and less dependent on Rourke. less

Three stars more for the world building than attachment to characters.
