review 1: Forty-something Dana Stellgarten finds herself a single mother raising two children in Conneticut after her divorce from her husband. Her children are internalizing the pain of the divorce. Determined to make her children's lives better than she had with her parents, she's committed to doing everything she can to make her kids feel safe, secure and loved. Meanwhile, her niece with bulimia tendencies runs away from home and shows up at Dana's. I enjoyed reading about Dana's post-divorce life and the circumstances she navigates, that are sometimes disappointing. The information on bulimia was enlightening. I also appreciated the fact that as busy as she was, Dana felt it was important to deliver meals to a family in need. This is a story of real people, experiencing rea... morel, everyday problems.
review 2: Deep Down True is Dana's story as she confronts life after a divorce, it's impact on her two children and dealing with her ex-husband, his girlfriend, a potential new boyfriend and returning to the work place. Fay gets all the voices just right from the cranky and confused preteen daughter and the high school niece who seeks refuge at Dana's house. The story is told with humor as Dana finds her voice and her fury, and as she negotiates helping everyone around her stay emotionally healthy. Fay is masterful at depicting suburban angst in today's modern world. less
