review 1: Oh god.All the dark things in this Volume are nothing compared to what is about to happen for Volume 11 marks the beginning of the Headhunter arc. Aside from that, this manga is a lot about Sharon, the lovely young woman who doesn't appear often enough, if you ask me.What I love so much about Sharon is that her burden is something one can easily relate - the trouble of not being able to help the ones she loves most, because she keeps on being left out. And then of course there is the fact that the one thing that gives her power - her Chain - is also the reason why she has the mind of a grown woman trapped inside of a teenage body. What also touched me was the relationship between Break and Reim. I think I already mentioned that I started respecting Reim when he stood up ag... moreainst Rufus Barma to protect Break, but the scene at the beginning of Volume 11 made me fall in love with him. He is not just a dork, he is such a kind and caring young man and the best friend one could only hope for, he even puts up with Break's crazy antics. My favorite moment is when Reim calls Break an idiot for not realizing that friendship is just as important to him as serving the Barma household and Break is an idiot and doesn't say thank you until Reim is out of earshot.(The manga was also giving me Eliot and Leo feels but then again every scene with Eliot and Leo is giving me feels, so that was kinda obvious? And Eliot is so tsundere.)The three little extras at the end were just adorable and amusing.Basically, there is no reason not to love this manga.
review 2: Developments:1. Poor Break! He has gone blind! Seemingly as part of the "using his chain's powers brings him closer to death" bit. Of course, they immediately follow it up with Break saying he can "sense" movement and claiming that, with a few days of recovery, he'll be in fighting shape to take on anyone in Pandora even without his eyesight. I was just about to roll my eyes and be like, "wow, way to give him a meaningless handicap/not explore the interesting adjustments he might have to make as a result of going blind," when Reim points out that Break won't be able to read. If he's going to keep his new blindness a secret from others - notably Sharon, whom he doesn't want to worry - then Reim is going to have to cover all his reading/writing tasks. So that's an interesting adjustment after all.2. Stuff about a chain (or similar demonic creature) called the Headhunter that killed Elliott's brothers and is the reason he hates Gil (Gil ran away to draw the Headhunter off, and Elliott thought it was out of cowardice).3. Vincent is crushing on, or possibly thinking about crushing, Ada. Oh noes! How will he fall in love with Break?4. Apparently on most people who have incuses, the incuses are not visible most of the time, only when they advance (due to using a chain's power). Oz's is visible all the time because his bond with Alice is "special," while Break's is visible all the time because it's already gone around once. less
