review 1: Queen Elizabeth rose to power when men had all the power, after King Henry VIII split the religious community in England, after the reign of Bloody Mary. She was able to unite the country and make it a stronger military power all while doing it her way.This one was a read aloud I did with my students. Even the boys seemed to enjoy it, and they don't always remain interested in books that have a female lead character. What helped was that this series is short and to the point. It gives the students a good feeling for life at the time. Although I don't think that many would choose to read this on their own.
review 2: This book was pretty good. It is set up nicely into 10 short chapters. It is set up like a beginning chapter book. I like that there are simple ... moreillustrations through out the book as well. I feel the way it is set up would keep a child's interest especially since history can be so dry and boring to learn.I chose this book because of my interest in English history and the Tudor family. The bio begins not at the beginning of her life but once she is Queen. It has some what of an introduction before the actual first chapter. It does a good job of displaying her character as Queen and how she would stop at nothing to save her country from the invading Spanish. Then the book starts to follow the typical style of a biography giving background of when, and where the Queen was born. It also give a brief over view of the key players, who are also her family members( King Henry viii, Anne Boleyn, and Mary Tudor). Also defining early struggles she had before becoming Queen.Over all, the continuation through out the book shows that life of Queen Elizabeth I. I truly feel these books are set up in a way that children can get excited and intrigue them about famous historical figures. less
