review 1: I read Finny the day it was released, and could not put it down. It was a light, happy story, but not without its powerful moments, difficult conflicts and complexities... I cheered for Finny throughout. Three years after reading it, I still think about Earl, Finny and Poplin and Mr. Henckle as if they are people I actually know. I still chuckle about the quirky moments in the novel, and envision those larger moments...a window in Paris, and feather drifting through the air, the crunching of leaves, as if I'd seen and heard them myself. This is a true testament to Justin Kramon's skill and subtleties as a writer. I just finished reading his new novel _The Preservationist_ which is in most ways a huge departure for the lightness of _Finny_, but in the same way, I am i... moren the company of his characters after reading the novel. Like _Finny_, I could not put _The Preservationist_ down. Both are complex, though for all that is light in _Finny_ there is darkness in _The Preservationist_. All the same, it is Kramon's story telling and his creation of characters in their worlds that will lead me to read anything he writes in the future.
review 2: This was the perfect light and fluffy read to start out the school year. I read this on the recommendation of a friend and was not disappointed. Finny was such a lovable character and the story was one that you rooted for again and again. Great, light read. I would recommend for anyone who is looking for something heartwarming without too much thought involved. Good for vacation or a stressful, hectic period. :) less
