review 1: I don't know what to feel about this book. I enjoyed it but not as much as I thought I would. It was good to see the family dynamics between Andrew, Nicholas, and Jacob, and Jacob's younger years were my favorite. But Andrew and Nicholas's relationship didn't impress me much, especially Andrew's attitude - jealousy with Nick every time he and Jacob did daddy things together and inability to admit that he loves Nick, will do that to you. With Nick, I realized that he loves Andrew even without him saying (well, he practically admitted it to Jacob in a roundabout way), but I can't say the same for Andrew, considering he runs away whenever Jacob brings it up. Though I guess the ending could be seen as his way of letting Nick knows he cares. The de-aging bit was cute, if not a ... morelittle disturbing :)
review 2: This was an unique vampire story. I thoroughly enjoyed the writing style. At first I thought just getting a snippet of each year would leave me feeling unsatisfied, but that wasn't the case. The story moved along at a fast pace, but with enough detail for it to give the reader plenty of information. All three of these males that made up a very different family grabbed my heart equally. Andrew and Nicholas had a wonderful relationship with each other, although a long way from perfect, and how they parented Jacob as a real team was lovely to read. Jacob turned out to be one of the best children I had ever read, and my only problem was those special little words that didn't get said. less
