review 1: I wanted to like this book--I'm a singer myself, singing in church, having toured with a band in the past. The premise was promising, but the story was flat for me. It's a nice story. Nice, and tame, and predictable. I still have hope for Christian fiction--something that will challenge me, thrill me with a gripping story, keep me up at night thinking about the characters. But alas, this wasn't it.

Not only because it's set in the Chicago my Swedish grandparents moved to and lived in, not only because it offers up historical gems every Chicagoan will love, not only because the heroine is a Scandinavian with SOUL, not only because the heroine and I share a love of Mihalia Jackson, but because the story is so powerful, so engaging. Onl... morey a few pages in, I couldn't put it down this wonderful story of love and injustice and following God-given dreams and callings. less
