Pen & Paper,
review 1: I have always felt that comedy is a very difficult thing to translate to books, I have read so many self-proclaimed humour books and been left bored and unimpressed. The Moaning of Life companion book is surprisingly energetic, witty and quite powerful in its own way. Many have dismissed Pilkington as a novelty flash-in-the-pan but I think he is one of the most underrated and unappreciated comic talents of recent years, yes he can be funny with some of his blunt sayings but there is a wittier side of him. Some of his observations and musings had me laughing for ages and stayed with me. This is a great read for non-readers and readers alike, Karl engages with you like you'd expect, no "messing around", the opposite of say, Will Self.I recommend this book to fans of the grea... moret man himself and for those new to the round-headed buffoon.
review 2: You might know Karl Pilkington from the Ricky Gervais series 'An Idiot Abroad' in which Ricky takes his friend Karl out of his comfort zone & sends him to some of the worst possible places on earth. Or you may know Karl from Gervais' new series, 'Derek'. Both are on Sky One and available on Netflix. What I didn't know was that after 'An Idiot Abroad', Karl had another series called 'The Moaning of Life' where he chose the destinations & the reasons for going to these places. It was also on Sky One and available on Netflix DVD. This book is the result of the series. He explains the reasons for choosing the places he chose to go to i.e. exploring relationships, children, death etc. and the people he met along the way. Even without having seen the series, I was able to picture Karl exploring each place & offering his opinions. Karl is very funny & so is the book. Highly recommend. less

Amusing light reading, good for when you want to read but don't have the time to devote to a novel.
